7:45am-8:00amWelcome Remarks led by Dr. LaRee Johnson

8:00am-9:30amPEARL TALKS: Wellness, Identity, & Inner Work

Protecting your body, understanding your burnout, staying balanced, and building a life that feels like yours on the inside — at every stage of your career

This session takes an honest look at the full picture of personal wellbeing in pediatric dentistry — the physical demands that accumulate over time, the burnout that creeps in quietly, and the daily systems that either support you or slowly cost you. Led by Dr. LaRee Johnson, with colleagues sharing what they actually do and what they wish they had started sooner, this session replaces aspiration with action. Not wellness content — real systems, real scripts, and real before-and-afters from women who figured it out the hard way so you do not have to.

Course Objectives
- Identify evidence-based physical wellness strategies specific to pediatric dental practice and develop a personalized plan for protecting long-term health and clinical performance.
- Recognize the early warning signs of burnout and compassion fatigue and apply a practical framework for prevention and recovery.
- Construct a sustainable personal wellness system — including nutrition, movement, and recovery habits — with a realistic implementation plan.
- Evaluate alignment between professional identity and personal values and identify concrete steps toward a career that feels genuinely their own.

9:30am-10:00amMorning Break

10:00am-11:30amPEARL TALKS: Relationships, Motherhood & Family

How real women in dentistry build and protect the relationships and families that matter most — with practical systems, honest trade-offs, and hard-won perspective

The relationships that sustain you rarely get the same attention as the career you are building — and in pediatric dentistry, that gap catches up with people. This session covers the full relational landscape: partnership and marriage, children and the logistics of motherhood, friendships that drift or deepen, aging parents and in-laws with growing needs, and the community ties that either ground you or drain you. Led by Dr. LaRee Johnson, with colleagues speaking honestly about the trade-offs they made and the systems that actually helped, this session gives you real frameworks, real conversations, and real permission to build the relationships you want — without pretending it is easy.

Course Objectives:
- Identify practical systems for managing the mental load and logistics of a dual-career or working-parent household and apply at least one framework for equitable redistribution of responsibilities.
- Recognize the relational patterns that lead to disconnection in partnership and apply specific communication strategies for initiating and sustaining difficult conversations.
- Develop a personal approach to navigating extended family dynamics — including parents, in-laws, and caregiving responsibilities — that protects both relationships and personal capacity.
- Articulate strategies for maintaining meaningful friendships and community presence during high-demand seasons of career and family life.

11:30am-12:30pmLunch

12:30pm-2:00pmPEARL TALKS: Business, Leadership & Financial Wellness

Operational systems, financial literacy, and leadership tools for every stage — whether you are just starting out, building something of your own, or navigating what comes next

This session is not just for practice owners. Whether you are an associate figuring out your first contract, an owner in the weeds of operations, someone who has sold to a DSO and is recalibrating what that means, or a clinician trying to lead well inside a system that is not yours — this session was built for you. Led by Dr. LaRee Johnson, with colleagues sharing real numbers, real decisions, and real outcomes across every practice model, Session 3 covers the financial literacy, operational systems, and leadership tools that dental school never taught and experience takes years to accumulate. Personal financial goals, team leadership, practice culture, and the courage to know your own non-negotiables — whatever your situation, this session gives you something you can use Monday morning.

Course Objectives:
- Interpret key practice financial metrics — including overhead, net collections, and profit margin — and identify at least one actionable improvement opportunity relevant to their current practice setting.
- Evaluate the financial, operational, and lifestyle implications of different career models — including associateship, ownership, partnership, and DSO employment — and apply a decision-making framework to their own career trajectory.
- Apply at least two leadership and team management strategies — including delegation, hiring, and culture-building — that are effective regardless of practice ownership status.
- Develop a personal financial action plan that includes student loan strategy, retirement planning, and a defined approach to building long-term financial stability on a clinician's income.

2:00pm-2:30pmAfternoon Break

2:30pm-4:00pmPEARL TALKS: No Protocol for This — Real Situations, Real Solutions

The moments nobody prepares you for — and exactly what to do when they happen

Nobody puts these moments on the conference agenda. The parent who comes unglued in your operatory, the team member who walks out mid-day, the procedure that did not go as planned, the bad review that went live before you could respond. These are the situations that expose every gap in your training — and the ones you remember longest. Led by Dr. LaRee Johnson, with colleagues sharing what actually happened, what they did next, and what they built afterward so it never goes the same way twice, this session is the playbook dental school never handed you. No theory. No hypotheticals. Just real stories, real decisions, and the hard-won tools to handle whatever Tuesday throws at you.

Course Objectives:
- Apply a structured response framework for high-conflict patient and parent interactions — including de-escalation, difficult diagnosis delivery, and complaint resolution — that preserves trust and protects the clinical relationship.
- Identify practical strategies for managing acute operational crises — including unexpected staff loss, equipment failure, and scheduling emergencies — and develop a personal triage protocol for stabilizing the practice in real time.
- Demonstrate effective communication approaches for clinical complications, unexpected outcomes, and insurance disputes that protect both the patient relationship and the integrity of the practice.
- Articulate strategies for building a sustainable professional environment — including vendor relationships, referral partnerships, team culture, and end-of-day recovery habits — that reduces the frequency and impact of hard days over time.

6:00pm-8:30pmThe PEARLS Fashion Show: Fearless, Authentically YOU! & Dinner

This is not your average scrub day — this is a runway, and every single woman in this room has a spot on it. The PEARL Fashion Show is a celebration of the women behind the scrubs, the lives we live in them, and the creativity we rarely get to show off — so dust off the bedazzler, call your hype woman, and get ready to show this crowd exactly who you are. Attendees are invited to sign up and walk the catwalk in their most creative, most ‘them’ scrub look — Bollywood glam, Western chic, sparkle and sequins, tropical resort, disco diva, patriotic pride, or whatever lives in your imagination and a bedazzle machine. Grab your hot glue gun, break out the rhinestones, and bring your most unapologetic individual self to the runway. Grab a girlfriend and walk together, or own that catwalk solo — either way, get your song ready. Awards will be given, so bring your best because the competition is real and the crowd will not hold back.

8:00am-9:30amLeading Without Losing Yourself: Practice Management, Team Accountability & Tough Conversations - Lauren Andreas

Managing a pediatric dental practice often feels like balancing leadership, staffing, emotions, and patient care—all at the same time. Yet many dentists were never taught how to effectively lead a team, address underperformance, maintain boundaries, or confidently navigate difficult conversations.

Leadership is not about becoming someone else—it is about becoming more intentional. You do not have to change your personality to become a leader worth following. In this practical session, attendees will learn the systems, tools, and exact verbiage to lead with compassion, maintain boundaries, and hold teams accountable—without sacrificing culture, confidence, or credibility.

Participants will leave with practical strategies to move from reactive to proactive leadership, navigate difficult staff conversations, address performance issues, and create greater accountability and consistency within their teams.

Course Objectives:
• Transition from reactive leadership to proactive leadership using practical systems and tools that can be implemented immediately.

• Apply effective communication strategies to hold team members accountable, address performance concerns, and navigate difficult conversations with confidence.

• Set boundaries and maintain high expectations while preserving culture, confidence, and credibility.

Artificial Intelligence in Pediatric Dentistry: Policy, Evidence, and the Future of Dental Education and Practice Dr. Natalia Chalmers

Sponsored by Overjet

Available During Breakout Sessions 1, 2

Artificial intelligence (AI) is shifting from an optional add-on to a core element of

pediatric dental practice. This session explores five dimensions of AI adoption: evidence, regulation

and policy, education, efficiency, and patient-centered care. It unpacks the meaning of U.S. Food and

Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for dental AI companies, which must meet rigorous performance

and risk-assessment criteria, demonstrate clinical validation, secure pre-market approval, and adhere

to continuous post-market surveillance. The session also shows how AI-generated population data can

reveal previously invisible patterns in oral health disease burden and scores, as well as disease

progression. AI is already being integrated into dental curricula to enhance procedural accuracy and

personalized feedback, calibrating students for technology-enabled practice. Early academic adopters

report measurable efficiency gains—consistent diagnostics, streamlined documentation, and

improved case acceptance through visual communication. At its core, AI supports a more patient-

centered approach. Color-coded overlays transform radiographs into images that parents can

understand, strengthening provider-patient trust. AI-enabled oral health scores can further empower

families with actionable prevention insights and transparent records that build trust. By engaging with

these tools now, pediatric dentists can position their practices for sustainable success in an AI-enabled

dental landscape.

Learning Objectives:

• Explain the FDA clearance process for dental AI, including performance and risk-assessment criteria, clinical validation, pre-market approval, and post-market surveillance.

• Describe how AI-generated patient-level data can contribute to the evidence base for pediatric dentistry by revealing patterns in disease burden, oral health scores, and disease progression.

• Identify how AI is being integrated into dental education curricula to enhance procedural accuracy and provide personalized feedback for students.

• Evaluate the practice-efficiency benefits of AI adoption, such as consistent diagnostics, streamlined documentation, and improved case acceptance through visual communication.

• Apply AI-powered visualization tools—such as color-coded overlays—to enhance shared decision-making with parents and build trust through transparent, easily understood radiographic findings.

• Develop a strategic framework for technology adoption in your practice that balances evidence, efficiency, and patient-centered care, positioning your practice for long-term success in an AI-enabled dental landscape.

When a Bigger Airway Isn't Enough Dr. Amy Luedemann

Available During Breakout Sessions 3, 4

Many clinicians have experienced the child whose airway appears larger than at the start of treatment, yet improvements in sleep, breathing, behavior, regulation, or overall function have not occurred as expected. This presentation explores why structural change alone does not always create physiologic change.

Through clinical cases and discussion, participants will examine the relationship between airway development, structural balance, nervous system regulation, and resilience. The goal is not simply to create a larger airway, but to better understand the whole child and the conditions that support lasting health, function, and thriving.

Learning Objectives:

• Recognize why increased airway size does not always correlate with improved function, breathing, sleep, or behavior.

• Identify structural patterns that may influence long-term stability and treatment outcomes.

• Describe the relationship between airway development, nervous system regulation, and resilience.

• Recognize clinical signs of dysregulation that may affect growth, development, and response to treatment.

• Apply a broader whole-child perspective when evaluating and supporting children with airway concerns.

The Plot Behind the TOT: What’s Hot and What’s Not Abstract Dr. Ann Bynum

Sponsored by Lightscalpel

Available During Breakout Sessions 1, 2

Tongue tie (ankyloglossia) has long been associated with breastfeeding and speech concerns, but current research reveals its broader impact on sleep, airway development, and long-term health. This keynote presentation, “The Plot Behind the TOT: What’s Hot and What’s Not” explores the evolving landscape of diagnosis, treatment, and interdisciplinary care. Attendees will gain an updated understanding of how restricted tongue mobility contributes to sleep-disordered breathing and craniofacial growth, as well as how collaborative care models drive better outcomes.

Using a “hot vs. not” framework, this session will highlight what’s working in the field — evidence-based screening, team-based care, functional training, and outcome tracking — while calling out outdated or ineffective practices such as “snip and send,” guesswork assessments, and isolated treatment approaches. Practical pearls on integrating tongue tie evaluation into daily practice will be shared, along with strategies to enhance leadership, teamwork, and patient communication.

Attendees will leave with a clear sense of direction: what to adopt, what to avoid, and how to better serve patients by combining clinical excellence with collaborative care. This presentation blends research, real-world cases, and practice growth strategies in an engaging, memorable format

Learning Objectives:

• Identify clinical signs and symptoms of sleep and airway issues in pediatric and adult

patients.

• Evaluate the role of multidisciplinary collaboration (dental, medical, therapy-based) in

optimizing outcomes for tongue-tie treatment.

• Compare effective and ineffective approaches to tongue-tie management, including

assessment, release, aftercare, and functional therapy.

• Apply practical strategies for integrating tongue-tie and airway-focused care into daily

practice, including patient communication, team training, and referral-building.
